Luke Thomas is confident that Derby County’s Under-23s can make it four wins on the bounce when they face unbeaten Liverpool at St George’s Park on Monday night.

Darren Wassall’s side head into the contest off the back of three successive victories against Manchester United, Birmingham City in the Premier League Cup and most recently Real Union to claim the Steve Bloomer Trophy respectively.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been at the forefront of the return to form - with his performances seeing him nominated for the PL2 Player of the Month award for September - whilst he was rewarded with a new three-year deal.

Liverpool boast a 100 per cent record in the Premier League 2, but Thomas sees no reason why the Rams can’t continue their good run.

He told RamsTV: “We’re all very confident with it coming on the back of the three victories, and hopefully we can make it four.

“They haven’t lost yet so we’ll be looking to take some points off them, it’s a massive challenge and it should be a good game.”

Thomas feels that the three points against Manchester United was long overdue after some positive performances against the division's big sides.

He added: “We’ve been unlucky so far against the top sides like Chelsea and Arsenal, so we knew how big the game was against Manchester United.

“We missed a lot of chances in that game and we were lucky enough to come away with a 2-1 win, which was deserved, but on a different day we would have won by a much more comfortable scoreline.”

The squad travelled to Spain to face Real Union in the inaugural Steve Bloomer Trophy fixture during the international break, spending time at the training base of LaLiga club Real Sociedad before the game.

Thomas gave an insight into what the players got up to on the trip and explained why the experience could stand the squad in good stead for the future.

He said: “We’re quite a close group, we had FIFA set up in one room and something else going on in another, so you were never on your own and I think it was quite good to be with everyone all the time.”
