Derby striker unable to help England U17s avoid defeat against Portugal.

Derby County’s 16-year-old old forward Mason Bennett was capped by England’s U17s for the third time inside a week on Sunday afternoon.#

The striker was named in the starting XI by England U17 Head Coach John Peacock to take on Portugal at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium in their third and final game of the U17 St. George's Park International Tournament.

Bennett started and scored against Italy last Wednesday, with the Three Lions losing 3-2, before he came off the bench on Friday night as England ran out 4-1 winners against Turkey at Northampton Town’s Sixfields Stadium.

Derby’s youngest-ever player wasn’t able to lead England to victory today however, as substitute Goncalo Guedes came off the bench to score the only goal of the game early in the second half.

Bennett, who sat out Derby’s 5-1 win over Watford as a result of his international call-up, is now free to report back to Moor Farm to resume training with the Rams.
