Derby County midfielder Jeff Hendrick is due to see a specialist today to assess the wrist injury he picked up in Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Chesterfield.
The midfielder landed awkwardly on his right wrist in the first half of the Rams’ final pre-season friendly of the summer, and was carried off on a stretcher as a precautionary measure and taken to hospital.
X-Ray results revealed the 20-year-old did not suffer a fracture, but a specialist will run the rule over his wrist to assess what, if any, damage was sustained on impact.
As a result, Hendrick has been forced to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland’s under-21 squad for their Euro 2013 Championships qualifier against Turkey to remain in Derby for treatment, and he will still miss Tuesday’s Capital One Cup clash with Scunthorpe United at Pride Park Stadium.
