Rams forward Jamie Ward says he was proud of the side’s resilient display, as Derby County secured back-to-back victories on home soil.
Ward struck twice, either side of Craig Bryson’s 53rd minute effort to seal a 3-2 victory over newly-promoted Charlton Athletic, and despite a nervy final few minutes, the Northern Ireland international was keen to praise the side’s hard-working performance.
He told Rams Player:“We didn’t make it easy for ourselves towards the end that's for sure, but that’s football; at least we held on and got the three points.
“You always get a bit nervy towards the end but we stuck to our guns and saw the game out and thankfully secured the win.
“It was similar to Sheffield Wednesday in a way, in the fact that their lad scored a wonder-goal, which is exactly what happened tonight.
“The screamers all seem to be going in against us at the moment, but it is great to see the game out and send the supporters home happy.
“We were disappointing in the first-half against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, but we still should have probably got something out of the game. But we have put it right tonight and the weekend has been forgotten about now.”
Meanwhile, the former Aston Villa trainee admitted that his second and third goals of the season have whetted his appetite, and that he is keen to combine his hot streak with a third consecutive home victory against Burnley on Saturday.
He added: “I have hit the volley well enough, I probably could have got an even better connection on it, but I have hit the target and it has gone in.
“The other goal, I won the penalty and wanted to take it myself so there was no arguments about that.
“I always want to score more goals, especially being a forward; it is part of your job.
“We will get all the right treatment and care over the next few days and we will all be fighting fit and ready for Saturday against Burnley.
“We are here to try and please the fans and we have done that over the last two home games, so hopefully we can make it three out of three on Saturday.”
