Derby County kicked off their weekend of celebrations for the life and work of Lionel Pickering by officially unveiling a new entrance at Pride Park in his honour.

The ceremony, which took place yesterday (Friday 7th August) was hosted by Rams CEO and President Tom Glick, who described Lionel as a man who dedicated his life and fortune to the club he loved.
Lionel's three sons, Ben, Matt and Will, were the special guests to cut the ribbon and officially unveil the structure, which is a replica of the former entrance of the Baseball Ground; made from the same bricks and building materials.

Tom Glick gave a speech paying tribute to Lionel Pickering:
"He was a man to whom Derby County was his life and his passion and commitment to this club rivals any who have had the privilege to be involved with this great organisation during its 125 years of history.
"The warmth and affection still bestowed on Lionel by our supporters is testimony to the influence he had.
"This new monument (the Lionel Pickering Entrance) stands proudly in front of Lionel's greatest legacy; Pride Park stadium.
"Without him, this dream (Pride Park) would not have become a reality; for the club and the wider community, this great Stadium serves a crucial role and it's thanks to Lionel."
At the conclusion of Tom's speech the assembled crowd, including family members, friends, former colleagues and supporters, broke into an impromptu round of applause in honour of Lionel.
