Emotional Reunion For Clough & Taylor Families

Posted on: Fri 27 Aug 2010

There was an emotional reunion between the widows of the late, and very great, Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, at Pride Park Stadium today.

Members of both families gathered at Pride Park today at a Press Conference to formally launch the project that will see a monument of the duo - who led Derby County to the League Championship in 1972 - take pride of place at Pride Park in the future.

Barbara Clough and Lillian Taylor, together for the first time in almost twenty years, were at Pride Park to speak of their delight that their husbands' legacy will live on.

Barbara said: "It is wonderful to see the two of them reunited.

"They were so happy and successful together and it is great that Derby County are doing this to remind people of the good times."

Lillian added: "It has been an emotional day but I know Peter would be delighted to have his image side-by-side with Brian at Derby."

Derby County Chairman of Football Adam Pearson commented: "It was a special occasion and a long time coming. It is somewhat fitting that this announcement comes under the tenure of Nigel (Clough).

"Brian and Peter left behind a fantastic legacy and Derby County is absolutely delighted to be involved in the project."

Former Rams Alan Durban, Ron Webster, Roger Davies and John McGovern - who played under the famous duo - were in attendance to throw their weight behind the project while current Derby County captain Robbie Savage was also in attendance.

Internationally renowned artist Andy Edwards, who is leading the assignment, was also at the Press Conference.

Edwards is one of the World's leading experts in sporting statues and is the man responsible for statues of Sir Stanley Matthews and Pele and has put on hold a project involving a sculpture of Mohammad Ali to become involved in this project.

Derby County will announce in the coming weeks specific ways for people to join the project a help ensure the monument and surrounding area is a fitting tribute.
