Clough Taylor Monument Progresses

Posted on: Fri 27 Aug 2010

As work on the much anticipated Clough Taylor Monument gathers pace, the two initial campaigners were at Pride Park to throw their weight behind the continuing work.

Two and half years after asking the Club to commemorate the achievements of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, Kalwinder Dhindsa and Ashley Wilkinson were invited this week to see the progress being made on the Clough Taylor Monument, which is scheduled to be unveiled in August of this year.

Ashley, who started the campaign in January 2008 said, "This is something that the fans have wanted for many years. It is going to be a fitting tribute to both men and I can't wait until the monument is unveiled in August".

Rams Vice President John Vicars (pictured here with Ashley and Kalwinder) revealed that the paved area around the plinth will be used to depict the four points of the compass and the direction of travel to some of the most famous football stadia in the world.

"The credit for this idea goes to David Leatt of Origination who is a key member of the project team. He has painstakingly plotted out the distance and direction of a number of venues which we feel will be both informative and unique.

"David has also been instrumental in providing a name and a theme for the area where the monument will stand however we are keeping this under wraps for the moment but all will revealed in August", said Vicars.

The figures which are 9 feet in height will be mounted on a 10 feet stone plinth which will tower over the area outside the Lionel Pickering Entrance.

The monument will be complimented by a seating area, designed by local architect Matthew Montague, where fans and visitors to the stadium will be able to congregate creating a true destination point.

Pre-orders are now being taken for a unique Clough/Taylor DVD that includes behind-the-scenes access featuring the entire project, including footage showing artist Andrew Edwards at work.
