After the dramatic late winner last week Derby County Ladies were looking to get three more valuable points with a tough away trip to Coventry Copsewood who only last week knocked Coventry City out of the League Cup.

The game couldn't have started better for the Rams as early pressure resulted in a corner which was hit right under the bar.

After a short scramble the in-form Maria Wayne hammered the ball into the roof of the net.

Fifteen minutes later Derby doubled their lead when Leanne Beet hit home a penalty after the Copsewood goalkeeper made a late tackle on the lively Sophie Thomas.

After missing a number of chances to extend the lead and surviving one tricky moment when the Derby defenders managed to hit their own post twice while attempting to clear off the line, a third goal did arrive before half-time.

A neat move on the right finished with Natalie Ennis slipping the ball into Wayne who fired home from a narrow angle.

Derby again scored early in the second half, Lorna Abbey this time heading home an Ennis corner.

It was Ennis herself who further extended the Rams' lead as her floated cross sailed over the goalkeeper into the far corner of the net.

With Derby now well on top Becki Bryan showed great commitment down the right to hassle the Copsewood defence and as she hit in a low cross the goalkeeper took too long to clear and Lauren Steadman nipped in to make it six.

Copsewood did manage to get a goal back when their striker raced clear down the right and beat the advancing Jenny Simpson.

This was just a consolation and Emily Jeffery (pictured) managed to get a seventh with a fine lob from the edge of the box in the dying minutes.

This convincing win sent Derby to the top of the table as Coventry City were held by West Brom.

On Sunday, Derby travel again to TNS and hope to avenge a 4-1 defeat a month ago with a place in the League Cup final at stake.
