The Rams made the long trip to Wales to take on TNS in the League Cup semi-final.

Derby were hoping to avenge a league defeat a month ago and knew this would be real challenge as they continued their bid for a league and cup double.

The game started well enough as a poor goal-kick fell straight to striker Lauren Steadman, who made no mistake with a low shot past the keeper.

However, a neat passing style of football from TNS began to see them get on top and exert some real pressure.

The Rams' back-four were standing strong and Jenny Simpson in goal was in fine form as she came racing out twice to make important blocks.

Ironically a defensive mistake led to the equaliser when Lorna Abbey's back-pass was under hit and the striker was quick to finish well.

Early in the second half, TNS edged themselves ahead with a superb free-kick from 25 yards that flew in under the bar.

TNS looked as if they were in control and appeared to be heading for a meeting with Coventry in the final.

However, Derby are made of stern stuff and dug deep to get themselves back in the game.

Farrah Walker came on to provide a few more attacking options which helped the Rams put pressure on the home team.

Sophie Thomas hit the bar from the edge of the box but with no striker following in TNS were able to clear.

With just a quarter of an hour remaining a bouncing ball in the box was headed on by the hardworking Steadman which fell nicely to Emily Jeffery who slotted home the equaliser.

Jeffery should have put Derby in front but her header caught the outside of the post.

However she had the last laugh as with three minutes left she found herself on the edge of the box.

Moving the ball onto her right foot Jeffery then curled a shot high into the top corner to put the Rams into their third consecutive League Cup final.
