A stunning late goal from substitute Jay McEveley was enough to give book Derby County's place in the 5th Round of this season's FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers at Pride Park.
Two minutes from time McEveley let fly with a stunning left-foot effort from 25 yards to send Derby through to the next round and avenge for their League defeat to Rovers a month ago.
Nigel Clough was forced into a single change from the XI that started in last Saturday's 3-0 victory at Peterborough United.
DJ Campbell was not allowed to feature under the rules of his loan agreement from Leicester City, so Chris Porter was handed a recall alongside Steven Davies.
Derby got the game underway and started on the front foot by winning two early corners and putting the Doncaster defence under pressure.
A slip by O'Connor in the Doncaster defence 40 yards out gave Derby an opportunity to test Sullivan's reactions but Shackell made a last-ditch challenge as the Scouser prepared to get his shot away.
Davies also tried his luck with a low drive from 20 yards before the midway point of the half but couldn't find his range and Sullivan watched the ball drift harmlessly wide, but it was Derby applying the pressure.
Rovers were always looking a potent threat going forwards with the pace of Sharp and he brought a first save of the game out of Stephen Bywater on 26 minutes with a low effort from the edge of the area that the Rams goalkeeper dealt with.
Only a brave piece of goalkeeping by Sullivan in the dying seconds of the half to dive at the feet of Pearson who was clear on goal from Porter's neat flick, and he just beat his fellow Scot to the ball six yards out.
That was the final act of a first half lacking in chances - but certainly not hard work and endeavour - to an end.
The second half started at a lively pace and Wilson brought out the best in Bywater with a long-range effort that the Rams goalkeeper kept out diving full length to his right.
Derby responded with an opportunity of their own as Hunt provided a very inviting cross from the right which was met with a firm header by Davies but the ball drifted just over the bar.
The move started a good spell of Derby pressure but Doncaster survived a succession of Rams corners.
As the game swung one way and then the next Sharp tried his luck from range but again Bywater was equal to the shot and the on-loan Sheffield United striker was inches away from a driven Roberts cross moments later.
The game was wide open and on the break Derby had a three-on-three attack but Davies took the shot on himself and dragged the ball wide just inside the area.
Buxton was called upon to make a superb last-gasp challenge on Coppinger inside the box. The striker was lining up a volleyed effort and the centre-back had to make his tackle inch-perfect, and he did to the appreciation of the home crowd.
Derby made their first change on 65 minutes, introducing Kris Commons into the game in place of Davies up front and Rob Hulse followed soon afterwards for Porter.
After the lively start to the half chances were few and far between, but Derby had the better of them as the final ten minutes approached.
A fine cross by Pearson caused panic in the Doncaster defence and Commons had a shot scrambled away, but only as far as Pearson who crashed a volley goalwards which was beaten away by Sullivan at his near post.
With just a few minutes left, Derby booked their place in the 5th Round in stunning fashion.
After a blocked shot from Pearson bounced out to the edge of the area McEveley stepped up to crash an unbelievable effort into the top left-hand corner of Sullivan's goal.
The former Scotland international didn't move a muscle as he watched the ball whistled past him and into the back of the net to spark off wild celebrations at Pride Park.
Four minutes of added time followed, but Derby had done enough, although they did survive a late scare when a weak clearance from Bywater went straight to Lewis Guy, but he rushed his effort which lacked pace and Rams goalkeeper was able to rush back and claim the ball.
Derby can look forward with interest to tomorrow's 5th Round draw....and Tuesday's Coca-Cola Championship game at Plymouth.
