THE GAFFER'S DAY TWO REPORT
Paul Jewell has reflected on an "intense" two days of training at the Rams' pre-season camp in Holland.
Weather conditions have today taken a turn for the worse in Mierlo but that hasn't hindered the workout in any way.
And having put his players through their paces with a mixture of ball-work and fitness sessions, Jewell is happy with what he has seen so far.
"There has been a fair amount of rain since we have been here but, to be honest, that hasn't been a problem," he told www.dcfc.co.uk.
"It has made the pitches fast and greasy and as a result we have been able to play some high-tempo football.
"We have had the footballs out for a lot of the time because I want to work on patterns of play and press home the style of play I am looking for this season.
"But the fitness element has also been very important so the players have been putting in plenty of running and gym work.
"The first two days have been very intense and we have packed a lot in."
While much of the work this week has been geared towards fitness and team play, Jewell is also still trying to bolster his squad.
He has been joined in Holland by chairman of football Adam Pearson and the pair are working hard on possible moves.
Nine players have already arrived and Jewell has stated his aim to have as many of his transfers complete as possible by the time the Championship season kicks off against Doncaster Rovers on August 9.
"There is still work being done on the transfer side of things as well," Jewell said.
"That has not stopped just because we are in Holland.
"Adam is out here with us so we have been discussing and working on various deals while we have been here.
"As both Adam and I have stated, the next couple of deals will take patience but they are crucial to our squad-building plans.
"We will continue to work hard on the transfer front."
