Posted on: Mon 18 May 2009

January 2
Derby County will reward its supporters at the home leg of the Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester United with a free matchday programme and a free black and white scarf for all home fans.
The news comes as tickets go on general sale to Rams fans from today (Friday January 2) ahead of next Wednesday's visit of the Premier League, European and world champions, with plenty of great seats still available.
It is sure to be a big occasion with Derby in the last four for the first time since 1968 and Tom Glick, the club's president and CEO, says this is a perfect opportunity to give something back to the fans.

Let nobody argue that the magic of the FA Cup is no more after surely one of the most dramatic ties in Derby County's history.
They travelled away to non-league side Forest Green Rovers as clear favourites but left Gloucestershire victorious after an absolute thriller.
Forest Green should have been ahead just seven seconds in through Adriano Rigoglioso, but by 20 minutes they were two clear through Jonathan Smith and Alex Lawless.
A major shock looked on the cards but Derby were level thanks to two goals in four minutes shortly before half-time, through Rob Hulse and Martin Albrechtsen.
The Rams dominated after the break but they were rocked with quarter of an hour to go when Paul Stonehouse restored the home side's lead, only for Paul Green to quickly level it all up again.
A replay looked likely the longer the game went on but with four minutes remaining Darren Jones saw red for a professional foul on Kris Commons, and up stepped Steve Davies to win it from the penalty spot.

Derby County will host local rivals Nottingham Forest in the fourth round of the 2008/09 FA Cup.
The tie will be played at Pride Park Staidium over the weekend of January 24/25.
Derby earned their place in the last 32 by virtue of yesterday's 4-3 win away to Forest Green Rovers, while Forest went to Premier League side Manchester City and won 3-0.

January 5
Derby County Ladies find themselves in the last 16 of the FA Women's Cup after a nail-biting game against visitors Lewes LFC from the SE Combination on Sunday.
Although Derby had plenty of possession they fell two goals behind by the interval and knew they needed to perform better if they were to continue their fine cup run.
Early in the second half Maria Wayne pulled a goal back, but the crowd had to wait a long while for the equaliser - a classic long strike by Amy Pashley.
At the start of extra time Emily Jeffery kept posession in the opposition box under pressure and managed to slide in goal number three.
Lewes replied with another goal from their direct football, and despite some close calls at either end the game went to penalties.
Despite missing the first of these the Rams went on to win the shoot-out and now look forward to a tie against Chelsea LFC after being paired with the Londoners in Monday's draw.
Chelsea are one of the top women's sides in the country and currently sit third in the Premier League.
This is the first time Derby have progressed so far in the competition.

January 6
Miles Addison is anticipating the biggest day of his fledgling career as he prepares to take on the world club champions.
The teenager has made a major impact since breaking back into the Derby County side this season and will be a key figure in the Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
He experienced the Premier League last year but sees Wednesday's first leg at Pride Park Stadium as the biggest occasion he will have faced so far.

The Rams will take a deserved lead to Old Trafford as they bid to reach the Carling Cup final for the first time in their history after a performance of passion, commitment, and no short measure of skill against the newly-crowned World Club Cup winners.
Kris Commons fired in the only goal of the game, a stunning 25-yarder that totally beat Tomasz Kuszczak and deserved to win any match.
And United, for all their possession and the second-half arrival of their star names, failed to cause Roy Carroll any serious problems all night.
Had they been going home facing a larger deficit they could not have complained as Commons again, Steve Davies and Rob Hulse all went close.
At the other end Derby defended superbly while scrapping for everything in midfield and giving their visitors not a second's rest.
The wider picture shows it is only half-time but Derby did what they had to on a memorable Pride Park Stadium night.

Lewin Nyatanga described Wednesday's 1-0 victory over Manchester United as a "great night" - but says Derby have to make sure they build on their performance.
United, the current Premier League, European and World Club Cup champions, offered barely a threat as the Rams took the advantage from the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final.
The result was based on a tremendous defensive performance but Derby also offered far more of an attacking threat than their visitors.

New Rams manager Nigel Clough has hit the ground running on day one in the job, by revealing his coaching staff for a new era at Derby County.
Gary Crosby, Andy Garner and Martin Taylor have joined the Rams and will play a major role in assisting Clough.
All three joined the new Gaffer on the training ground today as the new management team get down to work ahead of the Championship fixture at Cardiff City this weekend, Clough's first game in charge of Derby County.

January 10
This afternoon's Coca-Cola Championship game away to Cardiff City has been postponed following a pitch inspection at Ninian Park.
The decision was taken shortly after 12.30pm after referee Neil Swarbrick examined the playing surface following the cold snap that has struck many parts of Britain over the last couple of days.
Derby manager Nigel Clough, who was due to take charge of the team for the first time, said: "It is frustrating as we have been looking forward to it all week after winning two cup matches, and the superb performance against Manchester United, and I know the lads were itching to play today."

First-half goals from Wayne Routledge and Mikele Leigertwood saw Derby defeated 2-0 by Queens Park Rangers as the Nigel Clough era got underway at Pride Park Stadium.
Routledge fired home the first on 21 minutes after Martin Albrechtsen's clearance fell nicely into his path, and the second was a composed but powerful finish from Leigertwood.
Visiting keeper Radek Cerny's biggest test came early in the second half as he dived to superbly turn away a stooping Addison header.
Had that gone in we may well have seen a different game but Rangers solidly held on to their advantage and could also have gone on to extend it.

Kris Commons will be treating tonight's Carling Cup semi-final at Manchester United just like any other game.
Derby head to Old Trafford with a one-goal lead going into the second leg against the Premier League leaders.

Derby's hopes of reaching the Carling Cup final for the first time are over after a 4-2 defeat to Manchester United in a second leg that saw Nigel Clough's side push the Premier League leaders all the way as they claimed a 4-3 aggregate success.
It looked to be all over well before half-time as Nani, John O'Shea and Carlos Tevez opened up a clear advantage for the home side following Derby's bright start.
But as United took their foot off the gas after the break the Rams stepped it up and got back into it with 12 minutes remaining through a Giles Barnes penalty.
That gave them hope of a recovery and although Cristiano Ronaldo's spot-kick restored United's advantage, Barnes curled home a free-kick in stoppage-time to close the deficit to just one.
It wasn't to be, but there was no disgrace on Derby's part after giving it their all in front of 9,000 travelling fans who didn't stop singing all night and have been treated to some memorable moments throughout the run.

Robbie Savage was full of praise for the character of his Derby colleagues after they pushed world champions Manchester United all the way over two legs of the Carling Cup semi-final.
The Rams had the edge going into Tuesday's Old Trafford encounter thanks to a stunning Kris Commons goal at Pride Park 13 days ago.
And though they were three-down at half-time in the second leg they were twice on target through Giles Barnes after the break to ultimately go down 4-3 on aggregate.

January 23
Derby and Nottingham Forest must face each other again for a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup after a hotly-contested 1-1 draw at Pride Park.
Nigel Clough's men had by far the better of the first half and were deservedly in front through Rob Hulse, who applied the simplest of finishes to a classy three-man move.
But Forest came out brightly for the second period and levelled it up midway through when Robert Earnshaw netted against his old club following a move amazingly similar to the one that led to Derby's goal.
A sickening serious injury to the visitors' Paul Anderson held up play for a long period and stemmed their momentum, leaving the Rams to finish strongly.
Goalkeeper Paul Smith kept Forest in it with fine late saves from Hulse, Kris Commons and Luke Varney, but it's over to the City Ground we go for the replay on Wednesday February 4 (7.45pm).

Nigel Clough reflected on a "special and competitive" FA Cup tie as his Derby County side drew 1-1 at home to his old club Nottingham Forest.
The Rams' gaffer made his name as a player at the City Ground and came up against the Reds in only his third game in charge at Pride Park.
"The fact that it was the FA Cup made it that bit more special this evening, it was a bit more competitive, and that's what it should be like," Clough said.

A last-16 tie at home to Manchester United is the reward on offer for Derby County if they can see off Nottingham Forest in their replay in the fourth round of the FA Cup sponsored by E.ON.
The Rams and their rivals from along Brian Clough Way will play again on Wednesday February 4 (7.45pm) after drawing 1-1 at Pride Park Stadium on Friday night.
And Sunday's draw for the fifth round has thrown up a visit from the Premier League, European and world champions for the City Ground winners.
Derby have already enjoyed two memorable clashes with Sir Alex Ferguson's side this year - superbly winning 1-0 at home in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final, before bowing out 4-3 on aggregate after a spirited performance at Old Trafford.

January 27
Stephen Pearson and Jay McEveley are making progress in their recoveries from respective knee and shoulder injuries.
The Scottish internationals were back on the training pitch on Monday as they bid to step up their comebacks.
Midfielder Pearson has been out since September with his knee problem while defender McEveley's loan at Charlton Athletic was ended early after he dislocated his shoulder.
"They were back on the training pitch and it was nice to see them back involved," said Derby manager Nigel Clough.

January 27
Former Derby favourite Lee Carsley haunted his old club with the only goal of the game and a vital clearance to earn Birmingham a narrow 1-0 win at St Andrews.
The midfielder's first key intervention came shortly before the hour as he glanced home a header from Hameur Bouazza's right-wing cross.
And with Derby pressing late in the game Carsley came to Birmingham's rescue as he scrambled away Miles Addison's powerful header just before it could cross the line.
Nigel Clough's men had enjoyed the better of the first period with Gary Teale twice forcing Maik Taylor into smart saves.
Taylor also turned over Rob Hulse's second-half header on a night when the Rams might well have felt they warranted a point.

Scottish international Stephen Pearson stepped up his rehabilitation from a knee injury with a 30-minute cameo against Aston Villa on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old midfielder returned to full training this week and came on as a second half substitute with manager Nigel Clough watching.
It was the former Celtic player's first outing since injuring his knee in the Championship fixture at home to Birmingham City back in September.
The game also saw another valuable 70 minutes of action for Giles Barnes, as well as Jay McEveley who played for the first time since ending his loan spell at Charlton due to a shoulder injury.
Derby scored two second half goals to secure a 2-1 victory in the practice game, with on-loan Seb Hines scoring from close range and Luke Varney smashing in an impressive late winner.

January 31
Nigel Clough has made his first foray into the transfer market as Derby boss with the imminent capture of highly-rated Motherwell striker Chris Porter.
The 25-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half-year-deal to become the Rams' first capture of the January transfer window and will tie up the formalities of the move on Monday morning.
He is a player Clough is full of admiration for with Derby beating off competition from other Championship clubs for his signature.

Derby County can confirm that midfielder Giles Barnes has joined Premier League side Fulham on loan until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old came through the Rams' Academy and made his professional debut as a late substitute in a Carling Cup tie at home to Grimsby Town in August 2005.
Barnes has made 95 senior appearances for Derby and has scored 13 goals.

January 31
A dominant first-half performance created the foundation for Derby to pick up their first three points under Nigel Clough's management with a 2-1 win over Coventry City.
Rob Hulse and Kris Commons were on target in quick succession to open up a deserved early advantage and it could easily have been many more but for a couple of Kieren Westwood saves and some bad luck with the woodwork.
Derby lost Miles Addison to injury at half-time and while they were settling down after the reshuffle the visitors were back in it quickly through Michael Doyle's close-range finish.
But although Coventry had plenty of the ball in the second half they didn't seriously look like fashioning an equaliser with Stephen Bywater largely untroubled.
It was just the result Derby wanted and sets them up nicely for Wednesday's FA Cup replay at Nottingham Forest.
