DIARY OF THE SEASON: FEBRUARY

Posted on: Tue 19 May 2009

February 2
Claude Davis has been re-united with Neil Warnock - his former boss at Sheffield United - after joining Crystal Palace on loan.
Warnock has taken the 29-year-old Jamaican international to Selhurst Park for month in a deal that beats today's transfer deadline.
Centre-half Davis cost Derby £3m when he moved to Pride Park Stadium from Sheffield United in the summer of 2007.
But his time as a Ram has been beset by injuries and he has made only 32 appearances since his arrival.
It was Warnock who originally took Davis to Sheffield United in 2006 after he had made a big impression during his time at Preston North End.

February 2
Derby County Ladies did themselves and the club proud on Sunday as they exited the FA Women's Cup with a 2-0 defeat at home to Chelsea.
The Premier League high-flyers reached the quarter-final thanks to goals in each half from Lianne Sanderson - both from the penalty spot.
A crowd of over 200 came out in force to cheer on the Rams at Mickleover Sports and they were not disappointed by what they saw.
Lauren Steadman clipped the post with a shot early on and Emily Jeffery also saw a headed flash narrowly wide of the target before half-time.
Derby enjoyed plenty of possession after the break but couldn't break through a Chelsea side intent on holding on to their advantage.
But manager Steve Hall was not at all downhearted by his side's performance and felt his players earned plenty of credit against an opposing XI including plenty of international quality.

February 2
Goalkeeper Lewis Price has moved to Coca-Cola League 2 side Luton Town on a month-long loan deal.
The 24-year-old is making the move to Kenilworth Road to join up with Mick Harford's squad - though Derby have a 24-hour recall option should the need arise.
Wales international Price hasn't featured in a starting line-up for Derby since January last year and earlier this season made three appearances while on loan with MK Dons.

February 3
Nigel Clough believes the FA Cup fourth round replay against local rivals Nottingham Forest has all the ingredients for a cracking cup tie.
Derby County's 2-1 win at the weekend against Coventry City has given the manager, players and fans a boost going into their all-important match tomorrow night.
"It will be somewhat emotional and a little bit strange with it being such a big game," Clough said of his return to the City Ground.

Kris Commons was Derby County's hero against his old club to earn the Rams the most remarkable of 3-2 wins away to Nottingham Forest.
The FA Cup is full of great stories but nobody could have predicted what was to follow when first Chris Cohen opened the scoring just seconds in, and Nathan Tyson's penalty made it 2-0 with just 14 on the clock.
Slowly but surely Nigel Clough's men began to get a grip on the game and when Rob Hulse headed home Gary Teale's cross on 27, they had hope.
Derby came out for the second half with increased vigour and deservedly levelled it just after the hour with Teale again the provider and Paul Green the grateful recipient.
From that point on it was a constant tide of black and white charging forward and after Commons smashed a low drive against the post the game's crucial moment arrived.
It wasn't perhaps one for the style council though it was well created by Commons himself, who then saw his shot take a deflection and spin up beyond the grasp of Paul Smith.
Derby held on to their advantage without any real scares to earn themselves a home tie against Manchester United on Sunday February 15 (4.30pm kick-off).

Andy Garner saluted an "unbelievable" second half as Derby came back from the dead to earn a dramatic 3-2 FA Cup win at Nottingham Forest - and a home tie with Manchester United.
Forest were two-up inside the first quarter of an hour of Wednesday night's fourth-round replay at the City Ground but were rocked as Rob Hulse, Paul Green and their former hero Kris Commons overturned the deficit to send the Rams into the last 16.
It was a night to savour for everyone in black and white, and Garner - part of new boss Nigel Clough's coaching staff - was full of praise for the way the players responded to adversity.

The number 11's 11th goal of the season got Derby back in it at the City Ground - and Rob Hulse rates the Rams' FA Cup comeback against Nottingham Forest as one of the highlights of his career.
Hulse's header in the 27th minute pulled Nigel Clough's men up off their knees to halve their deficit at 2-1 after the home side had opened up an early advantage in Wednesday's fourth-round replay.
Goals from Paul Green and Kris Commons wrapped up the win and a home tie against Manchester United in the last 16 on Sunday February 15 (4.30pm kick-off).

The Rams have chosen the Derbyshire Children's Hospital as its dedicated charity for the year.

Derby eased to their biggest away win in the league this season with an excellent display to earn a 3-0 success at Plymouth Argyle.
Both sides had chances and hit the woodwork in a first half that never really got going until three minutes before the break when Gary Teale's goal of the season contender opened the scoring.
And within six minutes of the second half getting underway the Rams were out of sight.
First, Kris Commons was the provider for Rob Hulse to make it 2-0, and he added his second of the afternoon from close-range after great work by Teale.
Commons and Martin Albrechtsen might have extended the lead, while at the other end Stephen Bywater produced a fine save to ensure Nigel Clough's men kept the clean sheet.

February 7
Gary Teale popped in a superb 25-yarder to set the Rams on the way to a 3-0 victory at Plymouth Argyle and admitted: That's my best goal!
There didn't appear to be a lot of danger when the Scot's first effort bounced back off a defender but his second was struck to perfection to open the scoring three minutes before half-time.
It was only his second goal since joining Derby two years ago but Teale ranks it right up at the top of his list of career strikes.

February 7
Rams manager Nigel Clough pointed to an all-round team effort as Derby rounded off a great week with a 3-0 win at Plymouth Argyle.
Eight days ago Clough's side were sitting in the bottom three of the Coca-Cola Championship but they began by seeing off Coventry City and enjoyed that memorable FA Cup success at Nottingham Forest in midweek before travelling to Home Park.
And goals either side of half-time - first Gary Teale's stunner, and two close-range Rob Hulse finishes - earned the points against the Pilgrims.

Derby County are pleased to announce that fans be will rewarded for their continued support of the club and Nigel Clough's side with a number of new benefits for next season.

February 13
Goalkeeper Stephen Bywater has committed his future to Derby County after signing a three-year contract extension to remain a Ram until the summer of 2012.
The 27-year-old stopper's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the present campaign but he has now put pen to paper on a longer stay.

February 15
Derby bowed bravely out of this year's FA Cup thanks to a 4-1 defeat at home to a Manchester United side who had to call upon all their class to go through.
Nani's thunderbolt opened the scoring just before the half-hour and they made it two ahead of the whistle through Darron Gibson, though Cristiano Ronaldo saw one effort chalked off in bizarre circumstances.
Some of United's football, particularly from the evergreen Ryan Giggs, was a joy to watch, and when Ronaldo headed them three clear early in the second half it looked like Derby were in big trouble.
But Nigel Clough's men dug deep once more, as they had been forced to several times throughout their run, and deservedly got one back through Miles Addison.
Gary Teale proved a constant danger on the left and came close to really making it tight before Danny Welbeck put the seal on victory for the visitors.

February 15
Miles Addison registered a goal against Manchester United - them immediately set his sights on Wednesday's Coca-Cola Championship visit of Blackpool.
The 20-year-old netted with a towering header to get Derby on the scoresheet in Saturday's 4-1 FA Cup fifth round defeat to the Red Devils.
There were plenty of positives to come out of a third meeting with United since the turn of the year but now the Rams have to focus on the league.
Blackpool are at Pride Park on Wednesday night with three vital points at stake.

February 18
Kris Commons turned in a virtuoso performance to inspire Derby to a 4-1 win against Blackpool - though they were made to work long and hard for the points before finally taking command.
The Rams opened superbly and were in front with just eight minutes on the clock as Commons swept in a fine low cross from Rob Hulse.
But they lost their way, not helped by first-half injuries to Gary Teale and Miles Addison, and were pegged back on the half-hour when former Pride Park loanee Rob Edwards headed home.
It was tight for long periods of the second half though Commons always looked as if he would provide the spark - and with 16 minutes remaining he went on a long solo run before hammering an unstoppable shot past Matt Gilks.
Hulse saw a header disallowed for offside before Commons turned provider on 87 with a perfect through-ball to send Paul Green away for the third.
Nacer Barazite's first goal in a Derby shirt wrapped things up nicely as Nigel Clough saw his side warm up well for Saturday's trip to Nottingham Forest.

February 18
Nigel Clough saluted his Derby side's attitude as they made it three straight Championship wins with a 4-1 beating of Blackpool.
The Rams had gone in to Wednesday night's encounter on the back of an FA Cup exit at the hands of Manchester United by the same scoreline on Sunday.
And while his side laboured at times against the Seasiders, they came out on top thanks to a superb Kris Commons double and goals from Paul Green and Nacer Barazite.

February 18
Some might think that at 3-1 with a couple of minutes to go a game might be dead and buried - but Nacer Barazite still had a target as the clock ticked down.
The Dutchman finally netted his first goal for the Rams on Wednesday night to put the seal on a 4-1 win against Blackpool.
Barazite has had some bad luck since joining on loan from Arsenal last August and even though this effort took a slight deflection, there was no doubt it was his goal after a fine solo run and 20-yard shot.

Defender Claude Davis is to remain with Crystal Palace until May 3 after agreeing to the extension of his loan spell with the Eagles.
The 29-year-old Jamaican international moved to Selhurst Park during the January transfer window and was reunited with Neil Warnock, who originally took him to Sheffield United in the summer of 2006.
Davis has played once for Palace since making the switch and will now stay in South London for the remainder of the campaign.
But he is not able to feature when the two sides meet on April 18.

February 20
Nigel Clough expects the emotions to come flooding back as he drives through the gates at the City Ground tomorrow - but the main thing on his mind will be getting the game underway at 1pm.
Four years passed without Derby County and Nottingham Forest meeting competitively before this season - but Saturday's game will be the fourth of 2008/09.
It comes on the back of that thrilling FA Cup tie there earlier this month and is Clough's second return to his former home already in his short Rams managerial career.

February 21
Derby made it two wins at the City Ground in February with a fantastic 3-1 success against local rivals Nottingham Forest.
It was the Rams' fourth Championship victory on the spin and came about by virtue of taking chances when they arrived and defending solidly to give nothing away.
Lewin Nyatanga swept his side into a fourth-minute lead from close-range and though chances were scarce at both ends in the first half, Forest probably shaded it in terms of possession.
But when Rob Hulse glanced home a header just two minutes into the second period Derby had doubled their advantage, then they were comfortable after the hour through Steve Davies's penalty.
Robert Earnshaw's header was nothing more than a late consolation for Forest, while the only real blots on Derby's afternoon came in the shape of Nacer Barazite and Jay McEveley both being helped from the field with their arms in slings.

A fast start to both halves gave Derby the platform to earn themselves a fine 3-1 win away to local rivals Nottingham Forest, felt Rams boss Nigel Clough.
Clough watched on from the City Ground dug-outs as Lewin Nyatanga powered Derby in front with less than five minutes gone then Rob Hulse headed the lead to two early in the second half.
Steve Davies's penalty put the seal on the points shortly after the hour-mark before Robert Earnshaw netted a late consolation for the home side.

February 21
Rob Hulse saluted a big win for Derby County after his 14th goal of the season helped the Rams to a 3-1 success at Nottingham Forest - their fourth three-pointer on the bounce.
Nigel Clough's men now sit nine points clear of the relegation zone after taking their tally to 12 from 12 at the City Ground.
Hulse was on the mark shortly after half-time to make it 2-0, following Lewin Nyatanga's early opener, then Steve Davies's penalty wrapped it up before the home side's late consolation.

February 21
Chief scarf-waver Robbie Savage felt the Rams' 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest was one for the fans - and he was more than happy to join the celebrations again.
Savage's antics in the FA Cup fourth-round replay at the City Ground earlier this month went down well with the travelling faithful after Derby had come from behind to beat their local rivals.
And, after Saturday's victory at the same venue, the Welshman was keen to recognise their support again with another proud displaying of the black and white.

February 27
The Rams' fantastic February ended on a disappointing note as they let slip a lead to go down 2-1 away to Doncaster Rovers.
Nigel Clough's men were looking for a fifth straight Championship win and gave themselves a platform early in the second half thanks to Robbie Savage's superb curling free-kick.
But they were pegged back soon afterwards when Paul Heffernan was left unmarked to head past Stephen Bywater, who was then left cursing the bounce of Mark Wilson's long shot as it skipped up and evaded his dive for the winner.
Chris Porter had struck the bar for Derby in a first half that offered very little in terms of serious action, and after going behind the Rams pushed but couldn't find a way through the resolute home defence.
