Derby County manager Nigel Clough says Miles Addison's inclusion in the England under 21's squad is a boost for the player and the club.
The 20-year-old defender has been called up by Stuart Pearce for the matches away to Macedonia and Greece in September.
Clough says everyone is delighted for him: "This is a proud moment for Miles and his family; we are all chuffed to bits for him.
"There is no doubt that he is a very talented young player who is still learning his trade; but he has all the attributes to play at the highest level one day and this call up is another step in that progression.
"We have been impressed with how Miles has started the season, alongside Jake Buxton, even chipping in with some goals.
"In fact, at this moment in time he is our joint leading scorer with two goals.
"We have no idea if he will be selected to play in either of the games but if he is I'm sure it won't faze him at all. He is a confident lad who takes everything in his stride.
"He knows the important thing now is to keep playing well for Derby County and make sure he stays in our team. We have some good players jockeying for the centre halves positions so that will keep him on his toes and his feet on the ground."
