ENGLAND EXPERIENCE A POSITIVE FOR MILES

Posted on: Tue 15 Sep 2009

Miles Addison returned from international duty last week with the England U21s and believes the experience will stand him in good stead for the future.

The defender came off the bench in the U21s 1-1 2011 European Championship qualification match in Greece last Tuesday.

Now back with the Rams, Addison is fully focused on his club form.

He said: "I've come back with a better understanding of the international game.

"I went out there and didn't know what to expect really.

"Everything took me by surprise, especially how slow the game was.

"It's not really sunk in yet that I've represented by country. I think it will take a couple of weeks to sink in but it's definitely something to be proud of.

"I hope it's the first cap of many, but we'll have to see but I've got to keep playing well for Derby first."

Addison missed out on a place on the bench against Macedonia a few days earlier but was introduced into the action against Greece from the bench with around half-an-hour left to play.

Miles explained: "It was exciting to come on, but I was nervous before I went on.

"The staff were reading the set-pieces out to me and I was quite nervous at that point, but when I got on the pitch and got a touch of the ball I felt OK after that.

"I thought I did quite well. The game was a lot slower than the Championship, which I preferred; it was definitely something I enjoyed.

"It was a good learning curve. Greece had some very good players and they passed the ball around really well.

"I've still got my shirt; I've not washed it yet! Think I'm going to put it in a frame, it's certainly one to keep."
