An imposing and dominant display from Miles Addison was the highlight for Derby County, as the Rams were defeated 1-0 in their friendly match against Dutch Premier League side ADO Den Haag.

The England under 21 international played 80 minutes in what was a highly competitive contest, with Paul Green also putting in an impressive first half shift, as both players gained valuable match time during the game in The Hague.

Nigel Clough named a strong side for the contest in the Netherlands, with Addison starting at centre half alongside Dean Leacock, with Freddy Stoor and Dean Moxey playing right back and left back respectively. The Rams went with a five man midfield, consisting of Paul Green, Bryan Hughes, Jake Livermore, Stephen Pearson and Lee Croft. Paul Dickov led the line up front.

Den Haag also packed out their midfield, meaning the early exchanges were tight, with neither keeper having a significant save to make in the opening fifteen minutes.

Addison made an impressive start to the game, winning possession for the Rams on a number of occasions on the edge of the penalty area and finding Green and Hughes, who were both playing deep midfield roles.

Dickov was typically waspish up front, making a nuisance of himself, not giving the Den Haag centre-backs any time or space on the ball.

Derby's midfield five dominated the opening skirmishes, although the home side had the first chance on goal, when Dean Leacock gave away a free twenty-five yards from goal after eleven minutes. Den Haag winger Karim Soltani wiped in a dangerous cross, but Leacock made amends with a strong clearance.

The Rams had a free kick themselves just minutes later, giving them a chance to put some pressure on the Dutch defence. Lee Croft's delivery was well guided into the penalty area, but Den Haag keeper Boy Waterman did well to collect before Addison could connect.

On twenty-one minutes Stephen Bywater was called into action for the first time on the evening, when forward Wesley Verhoek smashed an effort towards goal, which the Rams stopper did well to tip round the post.

Bywater produced another piece of brilliance just short of the half hour mark, when Den Haag centre half Timothy Derijck won a powerful header inside the penalty area. Bywater's reactions were spot on to parry the ball away.

Derby had another chance to break the deadlock from a set piece, when Dean Moxey thundered a free kick into a steadfast Den Haag wall on the edge of their penalty area.

On thirty-five minutes great industry from Paul Green set up a chance for Paul Dickov on the left hand corner of the penalty area. Dickov collect, turned and shot quickly, with his effort grazing the cross bar as it went over. Three minutes later Dickov came even closer, hitting the post from a tight angle, again Green the provider.

Nigel Clough made one change at the break, bringing on skipper Robbie Savage in midfield in place of Paul Green.

Savage slotted into the exact same position as Green, meaning no tactical changes for the Rams, with the second half starting in a similar fashion to the first; cagey from both sides.

Derby were again comfortable in possession, playing a controlled passing game, with Dickov a spark up front causing problems.

The Ram's first significant chance of the second period came after fifty-five minutes, when Savage's goal bound free kick was deflected just over. Livermore followed Green's first half example by adding energy and bite to the Rams midfield display.

Croft won a corner for Derby with sixty-five minutes on the clock, which almost resulted in the first goal of the game, with Den Haag being forced to frantically clear Savage's set piece off the line.

Dickov was replaced just short of seventy minutes; with young star Greg Mills coming on to the play the lone forward role. Arnaud Mendy followed soon after; he came on for Stephen Pearson.

The deadlock was finally broken by the home side on seventy-three minutes, with Yuri Cornelisse crashing home a close range effort after a cross from the Den Haag left; Stephen Bywater with little chance to save the effort. There was a hint of offside in the build-up, but no flag was raised.

Addison's evening game to an end on eighty minutes, being replaced by Shaun Barker.

Addison earned a congratulatory handshake from the Rams coaching staff and manager Nigel Clough, for producing a strong and commanding performance on his return to the starting line-up.

Derby came close to an equaliser with just seven minutes remaining, when Mills latched on to a great ball from Livermore, only for his goal bound effort to be blocked on the line but some last ditch Den Haag defending.

The remainder of the game saw neither keeper have a save to make, with the Rams comfortably negotiating the closing stages, meaning defeat, but a good display from Clough's charges.
