FL ANNOUNCES FANS' TOP 50 LEAGUE CUP MOMENTS

The Football League has announced the 50 golden moments, as nominated by fans, which will compete for the honour of being voted the greatest League Cup moment of all time.

This season is the 50th year of the League Cup and since August, supporters have been nominating their favourite Cup memory through The Football League website.

Fans now have the opportunity to choose their all-time favourite from the final 50 in an online vote.In the process, giving themselves the chance to win one of 50 pairs of tickets for the 2010 Carling Cup Final or one of 200 special edition Carling Cup Final balls.

From the first ever goal by Fulham's Maurice Cook in 1960 to Ben Foster's penalty heroics in last season's final, the vote includes 39 clubs from across The Football League, Premier League and non-league game.Arsenal and Liverpool lead the way with four nominations each, whilst Aston Villa, Chelsea, Leeds United Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur boast two apiece.

The list of moments includes stunning goals (such as Dennis Tueart's overhead kick to win the 1976 final), outstanding saves (such as Gordon Banks foiling Geoff Hurst from the penalty spot in 1972), brilliant scoring feats (such as Frankie Bunn's six goals for Oldham Athletic in 1989), thrilling comebacks (such as Watford overturning a four goal deficit to beat Southampton 7-5 on aggregate in 1980) and landmark moments in the careers of players and managers from across five decades (such as Jose Mourinho's first trophy in English football in 2005).

A number of famous giant-killings are included too, such as Swindon Town (against Arsenal in 1969) York City (against Manchester United in 1995) and Scarborough (against Chelsea in 1989).

Football League Chairman Lord Mawhinney said: "More than 78 million fans have watched matches in the League Cup since 1960 and we want those supporters to tell us their favourite highlight from the last five decades."
