NIGEL: "WE WERE WORTHY OF DRAW"

Posted on: Sun 03 Jan 2010

Nigel Clough says his Derby County side were worthy of a draw in the tricky FA Cup tie at Millwall this afternoon.

Kris Commons' strike just three minutes after Lewis Grabban forced a replay back at Pride Park Stadium a week on Tuesday for Clough's side.

Clough told dcfc.co.uk afterwards: "It could have gone either way out there, especially after we got the equaliser.

"I think we were worthy of a draw in the end.

"The game was quite open in the second half, and we knew they would make it difficult for us and chase everything."

Clough admitted he was impressed by the character of his side to hit back within a matter of minutes at the Den.

"We responded very well coming back so quickly," he said.

"We pressed forwards and it was a good finish by Kris to get us level and it was nothing more than we deserved.

"We had a good spell of pressure after that and it was just a shame we couldn't get the winner."

Lee Johnson came on for his debut in place of Lee Hendrie at the break and Clough was impressed with his debutants display after signing on loan from Bristol City for a month on Friday.

"It was an encouraging performance from Lee; he did well for us come on and got us passing that ball," he said.

"Lee Hendrie had a tight hamstring, which we think is a slight strain, so that is why he came off."
