LOAN WATCH: VARNEY AT THE DOUBLE

Posted on: Tue 02 Feb 2010

dcfc.co.uk monitors the progress of Derby County's out-on-loan players.

Striker Luke Varney scored both goals for Sheffield Wednesday as the Owls came from behind to take all three points in a vital encounter against Plymouth Argyle at Hillsborough.

Rory Fallon had put the visitors ahead but Varney hit back within a minute from close range and he crashed home the winner with a left-foot drive before the first half was out.

Goalkeeper Lewis Price wasn't in action for Brentford in League One as their game at Oldham Athletic was called off owing to a frozen pitch at Boundary Park.

Fellow custodian Ross Atkins wasn't involved in the Burton Albion matchday squad as the Brewers drew 1-1 at Northampton Town. The youngster was on the bench last weekend as cover for Kevin Poole while Artur Krysiak was suspended, but he was back in the side at Sixfields which meant Poole reverting to the bench again.

Winger Greg Mills joined League Two Macclesfield Town on a month's loan on Friday, but the Silkmen's game at Rotherham United also fell victim to the weather so Mills will have to wait until next Saturday when Macclesfield take on Shrewsbury Town to make his debut.
