Nigel Clough says Derby County will have a new goalkeeper on their books by Friday morning.
The Rams lost first-choice goalkeeper Stephen Bywater in the early stages of last night's 4-1 defeat at Reading with a back injury, and his replacement Saul Deeney was sent off within half-an-hour of coming off the bench.
That meant Robbie Savage had to act as the Rams' stand-in goalkeeper in the defeat, and Clough is already well down the line in his efforts to recruit a new shot-stopper in time for Saturday's Coca-Cola Championship fixture at Doncaster Rovers.
Lewis Price remains out on loan at League One Brentford for the season and young professional Ross Atkins is gaining valuable first-team experience with Kidderminster Harriers, but Clough looks set to bring in a fresh face.
"We will have a loan goalkeeper with us by Friday morning," said Clough after last night's game.
"We were making calls at half-time and straight after the game to get the ball rolling.
"Seven-day loans are available on goalkeepers at this stage of the season and also given our circumstances, so we will look to do that."
Clough also hopes that Bywater may respond well enough to treatment to be included on the bench at Doncaster.
"We hope Stephen responds well to treatment in the next 48 hours and perhaps he will be on the bench," he said.
"The injury is a little niggle he has carried for the last few weeks."
