NIGEL: "PUT MIDWEEK BEHIND US"

Posted on: Sat 13 Mar 2010

Nigel Clough has challenging his players to put the midweek defeat at Reading firmly out of their systems when they face Doncaster Rovers this afternoon.

Derby were beaten 4-1 by the Royals, losing both their senior goalkeepers in the process.

The beauty of football is quite simple, there is always another game to put things right and Clough's men have that opportunity against a side whom the Rams manager holds in high regard.

"The circumstances were bizarre on Wednesday but we have to put it all behind us now and hope that all the mistakes we made happened in one game," Clough told Rams Player.

"We know what to expect from Doncaster, we've played them in the League and FA Cup at Pride Park, and year after year they continue to produce.

"Their style and pattern of play has remained the same as they have risen through the leagues and they are one of the best footballing sides in the Championship.

"Each year it comes as a surprise to me that Doncaster are always a team tipped to struggle in the Championship.

"For me they aren't a viable option to be down there; they are too good a footballing side.

"We're playing a side getting a bit of form going right now, and our focus is picking up where we left off in the first half against Watford a week ago."

With Stephen Bywater injured and Saul Deeney suspended, new loan signing David Martin from Liverpool will start in goal.

"We needed a goalkeeper urgently, so we're delighted we've got that sorted," said Clough.

"It could be a game or two for David depending on how Stephen's back is, but he will certainly start tomorrow.

"Stephen's back has been a concern for a few weeks and it has been a case of managing the situation."

Chris Porter and Jay McEveley have been under the weather of late due to illness and Clough is leaving it as late as possible for the duo to prove their fitness.

He said: "Chris has trained but he looks like he hasn't got his strength back fully; so we will have to wait and see.

"Jay McEveley has been under the weather too, but he seems to be recovering better."
