Russell Anderson hopes he has done enough to keep his place in Nigel Clough's starting line-up.
The former Aberdeen and Sunderland defender made his first start for Derby County on Tuesday evening against Middlesbrough, two months after joining the Rams.
Anderson is now targeting a run in the side between now and the season's conclusion in May.
"It was nice to make my first start on Tuesday, I really enjoyed it," Russell told Rams Player.
"Initially when I arrived I was happy to just be involved and be on the bench because I hadn't been for quite some time at Sunderland.
"As time has passed I have been chomping at the bit to play, but the players in front of me have been doing fantastic so I've had to wait for my turn.
"Now I'm in, it has whet my appetite to stay in the team and I hope I can retain my place for the forthcoming games.
"I know it is an old cliché but I will take each game as it comes and hopefully I have done enough to stay in the team."
Russell believes if Derby have plenty of positives to take from the midweek draw with Middlesbrough to take into the game at Hillsborough.
He said: "It will be a very tough game at Sheffield Wednesday, but I believe we can take a great deal of heart from Tuesday.
"If we can take the positives into Saturday we have nothing to be scared of."
