As the countdown to the new season gathers pace, Robbie Savage can't wait for the serious business to start.
Derby's campaign kicks off with an away fixture at newly promoted Leeds United.
The 35-year-old currently resembles a very excited kid at Christmas as he prepares for yet another season to commence.
"It's the serious business now and I can't wait," Sav told Rams Player.
"It has come around so quickly.
"Pre-season has been decent and we've played some good football.
"We've played well in the friendly games, but there is nothing better than playing for points.
"I am ready for the heat of the battle and that first crunching tackle.
"It is a tough week with Leeds, Crewe in the Carling Cup and Cardiff City at home coming up, but what a week!"
Savage has enjoyed plenty of success at Elland Road during his career, including a crucial winner whilst with Birmingham City in their early Premier League days.
He said: "Elland Road is a special place and I have some good memories playing there, although I get hammered there by the fans!
"I scored the winner there in the Premier League with Birmingham and I got some results there too with Leicester.
"Simon Grayson has done a great job in getting them back in the Championship.
"They have a big fan base like ourselves, and I think we will both be looking to challenge."
Savage also played at Elland Road during the lowest point of his career whilst out of the first-team picture at Pride Park and on loan at Brighton.
He said: "I was getting run rings round by the Leeds youngsters and people were saying 'your legs have gone old man'.
"It was my lowest ebb; a real low point in my career.
"So I feel I have a point to prove, even at my age. I have people to prove wrong, it selected."
