Dean Moxey was disappointed that his first goal for Derby County today was not enough to earn the Rams a point at Coventry City.
The left-back was employed as an emergency striker with as many as five attackers ruled out of the Derby side for various reasons.
Moxey responded with Derby's equaliser after falling behind before the interval.
But the home side struck late on to take all three points to inflict an unjust defeat on Nigel Clough's team.
"The performance wasn't worthy of a defeat," Moxey told dcfc.co.uk.
"We didn't take our chances, they took theirs and that was the difference at the end of the day.
"The management staff have told us to keep our confidence up, which we will do.
"We battered them in all honesty, but goals win games.
"We need to put the performances into effect soon, because we can't keep playing as well as we have been and losing.
"What we have to do is move on to next week now and hopefully get a result against QPR, who are flying right now so it will be a good test for us.
"We don't want to go into the international break off the back of a defeat."
Moxey's goal came early in the second half, converting John Brayford's cross with an expert right-foot finish.
The former Exeter City player dedicated the goal to his former team mate at St James' Park Adam Stansfield, who sadly passed away last week aged 31 after losing his battle against cancer.
"That goal was for Adam, it is just a shame we didn't get something from the game," he said.
"He was my room mate at Exeter and it has been a hard few weeks since his death.
"That one was for Adam, and his family.
"It has been an emotional few days. I went to Exeter last week to lay some flowers down for him and it is his funeral this week which I will be attending.
"It was surprising to be up front today, I hadn't played up front since I was a little kid.
"I actually enjoyed it and it was nice to score too.
"It was a tiring job, the manager asked me to do a job and I hope I did enough for him."
