Clough/Taylor Families View Monument

Posted on: Fri 27 Aug 2010

The families of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, the greatest managerial partnership in football history, tonight viewed the Monument of the duo at Pride Park for the first time.

Located in what will be known as Unity Plaza at Pride Park, the 9 foot bronze statue of the duo was unveiled to the families, former players and guests.

Less than a year ago the project was launched, and within ten months the Monument now sits proudly outside Pride Park Stadium.

The families have been central to the project, assisting the club to ensure the tribute is a fitting recognition of the men who made the Rams the best team in England and a major force in Europe.

Derby County would like to express their gratitude to the following, who have all made a significant contribution to the project: Andrew Edwards, Matthew Montague, Garry McBride, Ian Hodgkinson, David Leatt, Don Amott, Kalwinder Singh Dhindsa, Ashley Wilkinson, University of Derby, East Midlands Security, Global Fire Systems, Hytrac Lifts, Midlands Cooperative Funeralcare, The Electric Centre, Erskine Hurt Consultants, Complete Cooling, Talbot Turf and Design Presentation Services.

Derby County CEO Tom Glick said: "It has been a tremendous effort by all concerned, and without the help of many local individuals and businesses we would not have reached this stage.

"As I am sure all our supporters will agree, the Monument is a fitting tribute to two of the biggest characters in Derby County's history."

Barbara Clough said: "Brian and Peter would have loved today, seeing a statute standing proudly of them at Derby County. It has been a wonderful occasion and the monument is wonderful."

Lilian Taylor, the wife of Peter Taylor said: "Both Peter and Brian would have been so proud. It is a fantastic tribute to both men, who were at their happiest in Derby. I would like to thank the fans and the club for their magnificent support and contributions."

Fans can view the Monument for the first time tomorrow at 1pm, when the official opening ceremony takes place.
