Metgod: "Style Of Play Helped Land Bueno"

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010

Johnny Metgod reckons Derby County's style of football was one the deciding factors in sealing the loan signature of Alberto Bueno today.

The former Real Madrid and Spanish youth international striker joined the Rams on loan from Real Valladolid until the end of the season.

Bueno was an interested spectator at Pride Park on Saturday to watch Derby draw 2-2 with Queens Park Rangers whilst holding talks with Derby officials.

And Metgod believes Derby's style of play left a lasting impression on the youngster.

He told dcfc.co.uk: "It was good for Alberto to see us play, and from speaking to him he was impressed.

"He saw we liked to play football, and not a long ball game.

"If he had seen something like a long ball game, I think doubts would have been in his mind.

"He knows it will take time to adapt to living in England and playing in the Championship.

"We have to give him time, but he is a talented and gifted individual who can make the adjustment.

"Speaking to him, he is a good character and he sees this as a big challenge to come and play for Derby County."

Metgod travelled to Spain just over a week ago to watch Bueno in action, and he believes the 22-year-old can slot into any of Derby's attacking positions.

He said: "Alberto is a skilful, technical player who has good vision.

"He likes to get at defenders and get past them.

"I saw this when I went to see him play the other week, he was always looking to pick up the ball, turn and immediately face towards goal.

"He can easily slot into any of the attacking midfield three positions, as well as in his natural position up front.

"I spoke to Vicente del Bosque (Spain national manager) who knew of him, and said he would do well for us.

"He was with Real Madrid from the age of 13 so he has had a good upbringing, and we're pleased to have him with us."
