Green Tipped To Start For Ireland

Posted on: Fri 03 Sep 2010

Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trappatoni has hinted that Derby County's Paul Green could start for Ireland against Armenia tomorrow.

Ireland kick off their Euro 2012 qualification campaign in Armenia on Friday evening, before returning to Dublin to face Andorra on Tuesday.

Green has previously made two friendly starts for Ireland against Algeria and Argentina.

With Blackburn Rovers' Keith Andrews injured, Trappatoni has revealed he is 60 per cent sure he will select Green to start.

"Paul is confident, he has good personality," he told the FAI's website.

"He's fast, he's quick and I like his mentality.

"We have other players and today (in training) I tried Gibson with Whelan.

"I'm sure I can change but today I can say 60 per cent it will be Green."
