Derby County's Paul Green helped the Republic of Ireland kick off their Euro 2012 qualification campaign on a winning note on Friday evening.

Green played the full 90 minutes as Ireland claimed a vital 1-0 victory in Armenia in Yerevan.

Birmingham City's Keith Fahey scored the only goal of the game on 76 minutes, sweeping home from close range.

Tottenham Hotspur's Robbie Keane had earlier had a goal disallowed and also hit the post.

Green and Ireland will now prepare for their second Euro 2012 qualifier on Tuesday night, with the Irish facing Andorra in Dublin.
