Paul played in all three divisions of the Football League for Plymouth Argyle before joining Derby County on a free transfer in June 2008.
The right-back has been a consistent performer throughout his career and at the age of 24 when joining the Rams he has plenty of experience behind him but also plenty of time to go on to further successes.
He made a total of 177 appearances and scored just the one goal in Plymouth colours.
He managed to find the scoresheet for only the second time in his career, and the first time for Derby County, with a late diving header to salvage a point at home to Burnley - eventual play-off final winners - in April 2009.
