Derby-born Mitch Hanson signed his first professional contract - a two-year deal - in the summer of 2007 after graduating from the Academy.
The defender is at home either on the right or in the middle of a back four but has shown plenty of versatility by adapting well to a holding midfield role for the U18 team.
Hanson, an England U18 international, has had a brief taste of life with the first-team as an unused substitute at Reading in April 2006.
He also played reserve-team football while still a schoolboy and will be looking to take advantage of the return of the second-string this year.
Hanson joined League 1 side Port Vale in a loan deal to the end of the season, having moved there ahead of the closure of the March 2008 transfer window.
But he was hit by injury at Vale Park and his hopes of making a Football League bow were dashed.
