David joined Derby County on a permanent basis in June 2010 on a two-year deal after impressing during a loan spell from League One Millwall in the second half of the 2009/10 season.
Flying left-winger David caught the eye of manager Nigel Clough in both of Derby's FA Cup 3rd Round ties against the Lions in January 2010, although he had been identified as a potential target some time before.
Martin made his Derby debut as a substitute a few hours after signing on loan in Derby's 3-0 victory over Newcastle United, but he had to wait patiently until mid-April for his first start in a Rams shirt.
On the final day of the season Martin opened his goalscoring account for Derby with a stunning finish as the Rams defeated Cardiff City 2-0 at Pride Park Stadium.
Martin caught the attention of clubs in the Football League whilst playing for non-league Dartford and it was Crystal Palace who won the battle to secure his signature in January 2007.
After a year at Selhurst Park and opportunities limited he joined Millwall and quickly established himself as a regular in the Lions' midfield.
He was instrumental member of the Millwall side that reached the League One play-off final during 2008/09, only to suffer heartbreak with a 3-2 defeat at Wembley.
