Talented young midfielder Ben arrived at Pride Park in the summer of 2009 from non-league football, where he left a huge impression.
Ben played a key role in Ilkeston Town's promotion to the Blue Square North before joining the Rams.
He made his Football League debut on the opening day of the season against Peterborough United, and made his full debut days later in the Carling Cup at Rotherham United.
Ben's appearances were few and far between during 2009/10, but he was a virtual ever-present for the reserves and he skippered the side to the totesport.com Central Division title.
He made his full League debut on the final day of the season against Cardiff City, and picked up the man of the match award with an eye-catching display.
The north-easterner was a trainee at West Bromwich Albion and played for Morpeth Town and Newcastle Blue Star before joining Ilkeston in the summer of 2008.
