Arnaud announced himself at Derby with a spectacular overhead kick to equalise late in the pre-season friendly against Premier League Stoke City in August 2009.
The giant French youngster had been signed the previous summer on professional terms and spent last season playing for the reserve and Academy sides.
He impressed with his performances as a powerhouse midfielder and was given his chance with the senior squad. He is a tower of strength who gets up and down the field well.
Mendy joined Coca-Cola League Two side Grimsby Town on loan in October 2009 for a period of one month, and returned to Pride Park having made one appearance for the Mariners.
