Arnaud announced himself at Derby with a spectacular overhead kick to equalise late in the pre-season friendly against Premier League Stoke City in August 2009.
The giant French youngster had been signed the previous summer on professional terms, after previously being with FC Rouen.
Mendy is a tower of strength whose home is midfield but can also slot in at central defence if required.
Arnaud spent a month on loan at League Two Grimsby Town during 2009/10, and made just a single start before returning to Pride Park.
He was part of the totesport.com Central Division title-winning side, and to gain first-team experience he joined Tranmere Rovers on a month's loan at the end of August 2010.
