He's used to a few close shaves on the football pitch but now Robbie Savage has taken it one step further by having his whiskers trimmed for charity.

Sav went through the full treatment - from wash to moisturiser via cream and a cut-throat razor - on Friday afternoon to help raise funds for the Teen Pride Appeal, Derby County's chosen charity for 2009.

He was joined for the 40-minute grooming package by Rams colleague Kris Commons and coach Gary Crosby along with club staff and corporate clients - each making a donation to Teen Pride for the privilege.

They were watched in Pride Park Stadium's Dave Mackay Lounge by supporters who also gave money to the appeal and snapped up the new Teen Pride wristbands.

The shaves were be provided by male grooming experts MensGroom, who have joined forces with Derby County for a range of products now available in shopDCFC.

The Teen Pride Appeal, a partnership between Derby County Football Club and Derby Hospitals, has already passed £10,000 since its launch in November last year.

And on Saturday, you will be able to give generously to this great cause at Pride Park Stadium.

Collections will be taking place around the ground ahead of the game along with a series of other innovations.

Teen Pride wristbands will be available from shopDCFC and the ticket office, so you can show your support for the cause.

Hospital staff and Foundation Trust members are being offered reduced-price tickets for the game, with £5 from each ticket sold going directly to the Teen Pride Appeal.

There is still time for staff and members to get their tickets at the lower price ahead of the weekend, simply by calling 0871 472 1884 or visiting the Pride Park Stadium ticket office.

Patients from the Derbyshire Childrens Hospital will be enjoying a memorable day at the game by forming the guard of honour to welcome both sets of players on to the pitch.

Saturday's events will be followed on Sunday by a sponsored 8.5-mile walk around the beautiful setting of Carsington Water.

There is a £5 entry fee per person if you pre-register or you can register on the day for an increased fee of £15.

Entry fees go towards the cost of administering and organising the event, with the Teen Pride Appeal benefiting from the sponsorship you raise.

The first 300 people to register will receive two free tickets to a cricket match at Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

Derby County goalkeeper Stephen Bywater, who is an ambassador for the appeal, has signed up for the walk.

Please contact Kerry Wood on 01332 786445 or email kerry.wood@derbyhospitals.nhs.uk if you are interested in taking part.

Derby County is working work with Derby Hospitals to support the Teen Pride Appeal with money from the appeal going towards new facilities and equipment for teenage patients who visit the Children's Hospital Derby City General Hospital.

The money raised will help provide a dedicated outpatient waiting area for teenage patients, equipped with TV and video game stations for young patients to use while they are waiting for their appointments.

There will also be a new 'chill-out' room for youngsters, with facilities for patients to listen to music, access the internet, play games, watch TV and chat with their peers.
