Bywater Celebrates Teen Pride Phase II Conclusion

Posted on: Mon 03 Jan 2011

Derby County's Stephen Bywater was on hand to celebrate the conclusion of Teen Pride Phase II today.

The Derby County goalkeeper and Teen Pride Ambassador officially opened the dedicated teenage inpatient rooms and "chill out" zone at the Children's Hospital in the Royal Derby Hospital.

Joined by Derby County CEO Tom Glick, Derby County Vice President of Operations John Vicars, Julie Acred of the Royal Derby Hospital and patient Bradley Simmons, the goalkeeper helped cut the ribbon to formally open the dedicated area for young patients in the hospital.

Teen Pride II was launched earlier this year to raise £20,000 to enhance the current "chill out" room and side rooms used for teenage inpatients who attend the Children's Hospital.

Bywater said: "I've been proud to be the ambassador for Teen Pride for the last two years.

"The support has been magnificent, a lot of people have given up a lot of time and put in a lot of effort, and the rewards are there to see with the new area in the hospital.

"I hope the support continues for a long time to come."

Jonty Holt, hospital youth worker, said "The new Teen Pride inpatient area looks amazing and will be invaluable for young people who are in hospital, whether they are here for just a couple of days or over a longer period.

"This enhanced area provides a great space for our teenage patients to chill out and meet up with other teenagers and hopefully it will help to stop them feeling bored."

Derby Hospitals Charity's Teen Pride charitable fund will remain open and future donations will be used to provide additional items for the Teen Pride areas. If you wish to organise a fundraising event or make a donation please contact Kerry Wood on 01332 786445.
