Winger cancels his contract at Derby five months early.

Derby County have this evening cancelled the contract of winger Lee Croft by mutual agreement.

Croft, who joined League 1 Oldham Athletic on a season-long loan in the summer, is now a free agent.

His loan stint at Boundary Park has also been ended early in order for his deal, which was due to expire at the end of the season, to be terminated.

The 27-year-old found his first-team opportunities at Pride Park Stadium limited over the last few years, and made only five starts and five further appearances from the bench last season – while he spent the second half of the campaign on loan at St Johnstone.

A former Manchester City trainee and England Under 20 international, Croft made 31 appearances for Derby after arriving on a free transfer from Norwich City in the summer of 2009.

His only goal in a Derby shirt came in the Rams' 3-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday in October 2009 and also spent some time out on loan at League 1 outfit Huddersfield Town.
