Rams welcome First Division Derbyshire County Cricket Club to Moor Farm.

Derby County’s training session at Moor Farm Training Ground had something of a twist to it on Tuesday morning.

The Rams’ players were joined on the training pitch by members of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, who are now in training ahead of their 2013 season-opener away to Warwickshire in early April – following their promotion from the Second Division last season.

Derby took in their own training session in preparation for Saturday’s npower Championship fixture with Huddersfield Town, before they were joined by the Derbyshire CCC players towards the end of the session.

The two local professional sporting outfits came together as one in a seven-a-side tournament of mixed teams, which was keenly contested, before the Cricketers were put through paces in a shooting session with first team coach Andy Garner.

Manager Nigel Clough said: “We had discussions with a few people at Derbyshire County Cricket Club a few months ago and we talked about the possibility of their players coming for a training session with us, and vice-versa us going over to spend a day with them.

“We liked the sound of it and it certainly shows a united front when it comes to local sport within Derbyshire, and it was nice to welcome the lads from the Cricket Club over for the morning.

“I don’t think our lads like the thought of facing a cricket balls at almost 100mph, but hopefully we can go and spend a day with them at some stage in the future – and we wish Derbyshire well in the First Division this year.”
