Striker unable to help England U17 avoid defeat in the Algarve Tournament.

Derby County forward Mason Bennett came off the bench as England’s Under 17s tasted their third successive defeat at the Algarve Tournament.

England went down 1-0 to the Netherlands and John Peacock's side came into their final match of the annual competition following similar narrow defeats against Germany and Portugal in the previous five days.

They couldn't end their trip on a high, as a harshly-awarded penalty for handball was despatched by Dutch captain Damian van Bruggen to win the game for Holland.

As the scoreline suggests, it was a close match and the Young Lions could consider themselves unfortunate not to have got on the scoresheet.

Bennett came off the bench at half-time, but he wasn’t able to help England get back into the game.

After two appearances off a bench and a single start in the Algarve Tournament, Bennett will return to Derby this week to be part of the preparations for the Rams’ home game with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
