Forward joins DC United on loan until the end of the 2013 MLS season.

Derby County’s Conor Doyle has joined Major League Soccer franchise DC United on loan until the end of the MLS season.

The USA Under-23 international attacker had been training with the 2010 MLS Champions Colorado Rapids since the end of May, with a view to a loan deal to his homeland to gain first-team experience.

Under the MLS rules, the 21-year-old was offered to multiple teams to acquire his services as part of the league’s lottery process and the Rams learnt late on Thursday afternoon that the player had been assigned to DC United.

The Washington-based side are managed by former USA international player Ben Olsen and sit bottom of the Eastern Conference after 19 matches of the season.

Their next match is away to Chicago Fire on Saturday 20th July before facing New England Revolution in what could be Doyle’s first home game seven days later.

Manager Nigel Clough said: “It’s taken a little while to get a deal sorted but we’re pleased that Conor will be able to spend some time with DC United and get some games under his belt.

“He’s at the stage where he needs to play some regular football to continue to develop as a player and we’ll watch how he does with interest.”

Doyle said: “I’m looking forward to getting some first-team experience in the MLS and I am convinced it’ll help me improve as a player.”

Doyle, who joined Derby three years ago, has made 23 appearances at first-team level – of which seven have been starts.
