Rams waiting to discover the full extent of midfielder's ankle injury.

Derby County are still waiting to discover the full extent of midfielder Jeff Hendrick’s ankle injury.

The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland international midfielder injured his right ankle in Derby’s 3-0 win at Yeovil Town last weekend.

He was forced to sit out Tuesday’s 5-0 Capital One Cup Second Round win over Brentford and will also miss Saturday’s home game against Burnley.

Hendrick underwent tests on the injury earlier in the week and manager Nigel Clough says the Rams should discover how long he will be out of action for by the weekend.

He said: “Jeff’s had a few scans and he’s due to see someone on Friday to get a bit more of an indication of what the injury actually is.

“We’ll know a bit more, hopefully, by the weekend but he certainly won’t be available for the Burnley game.

“He’s on crutches at the minute and wearing a protective boot as a precaution measure.”

Hendrick was named in the Republic of Ireland’s preliminary squad for their World Cup Qualifiers against Sweden and Austria next month, but the injury will rule him out of action for those matches.
