Central defender pens a new three-year deal with Derby County.
Jake Buxton has become the latest player to commit his future to Derby County.
The 29-year-old central defender this afternoon put pen-to-paper on a new three-year deal, which will run through to the summer of 2017.
He has followed in the footsteps of midfielder Jeff Hendrick and left-back Craig Forsyth, who last week agreed new four-year deals with the Rams.
Buxton, who is a popular figure amongst Derby’s fans, made 52 appearances in all competitions last season after a consistent campaign at the heart of the defence.
Head Coach Steve McClaren said: “It’s great news that Jake has signed a new contract.
"He has improved his game and his performances last season were excellent.
“His leadership both on and off the field in the dressing room and around the place has been spot on.
“We’re very pleased that he is sticking around and you know what you are going to get day in day out from him.”
Buxton joined Derby in the summer of 2009 from Burton Albion and he went on to make 24 appearances for the Rams in the 2009/10 campaign.
However, injury restricted him to just one outing from the bench the following season.
In March 2012, he wrote himself into Derby County folklore by scoring an injury-time winner against Nottingham Forest in a 1-0 home win that saw the Rams complete a seasonal double over the Reds.
That goal proved to be a turning point in his Derby career and in the 2012/13 campaign he made 32 appearances, before going on to feature in all but one of the Rams’ games last season.
His performances were recognised by Derby’s supporters, who voted him as the 2013/14 Supporters Club Player of the Year in April of this year.
In total, Buxton has made 132 appearances for Derby and scored on ten occasions.
