Youngster signs after spending time on trial and featuring for the Rams' Under 21 side.

Derby County have moved to sign promising German central midfielder Tom Koblenz following a trial spell with the Club.

The 19-year-old featured in the Rams’ Under 21 side for their opening games of the 2014/15 season in the Barclays Under 21 Premier League Division 2.

Koblenz, who hails from Homburg and trained with the German Under 18 national side last season, has put pen-to-paper on a two-year contract, with Derby seeing off the attentions of a number of clubs to bring him to the iPro Stadium.

Head Coach Steve McClaren said: “I am pleased that Tom Koblenz sees his future at Derby County and I would like to welcome him to the Club.

“We are building for the future and Tom is another young player who will benefit hugely from working with the Under 21 Development Squad, alongside a number of exciting young prospects.”

The 6ft 1in player was part of Hoffenheim’s Under 19 side that last season clinched the Bundesliga Under 19 title.

He had previously progressed through the Academy of Kaiserslautern before transferring to Hoffenheim, where he had spent the last three years before clinching his move to Derby.
