The 19-year-old winger signed a two-year deal with the Rams, with the option of a further year, after turning down the offer of a new contract with Bristol Rovers, back in July, despite interest from a number of clubs.

He has been in good form for Derby’s Under 21 side in the Barclays Under 21 Premier League Division 2 this season, and scored the winning penalty in their Under 21 Cup penalty shoot-out victory over Sunderland last night.

Santos was handed his first-team debut as a substitute by Steve McClaren the Capital One Cup Second Round win over Charlton Athletic in August, impressing in his 20 minutes on the pitch as Ivan Calero scored a dramatic late winner.

He will be in line to make his debut for Shaun Derry’s side tomorrow afternoon in their league fixture away to second-placed Bristol City.

The Magpies currently sit 10th in the table and are only two points off the play-off places.
