Striker returns to Ewood Park after loan spell with Derby County.

Striker Leon Best has returned to Blackburn Rovers from his season-long loan deal at Derby County.

The 28-year-old striker joined Derby on loan from their Sky Bet Championship rivals back in August.

However, after making just three starts, all in the Cup, and a further seventeen outings off the bench, the Rams have activated a clause in agreement to cancel his loan spell during the January transfer window.

His opportunities were set to be even more limited in the coming months, after Darren Bent was signed on loan for the rest of the season from Aston Villa last week.

Head Coach Steve McClaren commented: “We would like to wish Leon every success in the future.

“He has been very unfortunate because Chris Martin has been in great form and we have since added Darren Bent to the squad.

“Leon has given his all, worked incredibly hard, been a great professional and not been a single bit of trouble, but given his chances were going to be limited moving forwards we have decided to cancel his loan agreement.”
