Defender to remain with Motherwell for the rest of the season.

Derby County defender Mark O’Brien has extended his loan spell at Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell until the end of the season.

The Academy product, who turned 22 in November, joined the Fir Park side on a half-season loan back in August.

O’Brien has made 14 appearances in total and impressed new manager Ian Baraclough sufficiently to remain north of the border until the end of the season.

Motherwell currently sit 10th in the table, six points ahead of St Mirren and Ross County who are joint bottom on 11 points.

O’Brien, who made his debut for Derby as a schoolboy at the end of the 2008/09 season, has made 35 senior appearances in a Rams shirt.

A knee injury forced him to miss the start of last season but after making a full recovery, he was only called upon to act as an unused substitute on several occasions.
