Darren Bent has revealed his desire to keep the goals flowing for Derby County – and fire the club to the Premier League.

Bent signed a two year deal with Derby, with the option of a further year, in June following an impressive loan spell from Aston Villa in the second half of last season.

He scored 12 times in just 17 appearances, of which 13 were starts.

After finding himself surplus to requirements at Villa and sent out on loan on three occasions, Bent is clearly excited about the next chapter of his career.

He is also convinced that Derby can enjoy a positive future as they aim to reach the Premier League under new Head Coach Paul Clement.

“I am looking forward to settling down and having a good spell with Derby County now after a few in-and-out years and a few spells out on loan from Aston Villa,” he told Rams PlayerHD.

“I hope I can keep the goals flowing and fire the team to promotion.

“I have signed because Derby County has the makings of a Premier League side and I believe that we can get there.

“We will be working doubly-hard to make sure there are no disappointments.”

He added: “Pre-season is hard work, but I know all the lads anyway so it has been a case of getting straight down to work and getting fit and ready for the season.”

Bent says Derby must ‘hit everything head on’ when the new season gets underway.

The Rams topped the table on a number of occasions last season but weren't able to maintain their promotion challenge late in the campaign.

This time around, Bent has called on Derby to show their quality on a consistent basis.

“Last season was disappointing in the end so we want to hit everything head on,” he said.

“We want to reach the promised land and that is our goal.

“Derby have missed out in each of the last two seasons so hopefully I can help the team achieve their goal this time.

“This time we perhaps need to be a bit more relentless and go for from the start until the very end.”
