Paul Clement has revealed his pride at being named as the Football Association’s Senior First Team Coach of the Year.

Derby’s Head Coach picked up the award, presented by FA technical director Dan Ashworth, on Sunday evening at St. George’s Park.

Clement, 43, admitted it was a very proud moment to receive the award.

His coaching journey began in 1992 whilst still at university and he landed his first managerial role in June by taking charge of the Rams.

Clement told Rams Player HD: “I’m really happy and it was a big surprise as well (to win the award).

“To be recognised by your own Football Association for your work is nice and it is a very proud moment.

“Hopefully I have lots to offer long into the future and, as a young coach, I am really enjoying what I do.

“I started my coaching journey in 1992 when I was at university and, of course, it is all worth it when you stand on the stage with an award.

“My first step into coaching was taking the FA Preliminary Award, which they don’t do anymore as things have been modernised now, and it has taken me a long way.

He added: “I’m at a fantastic football club in Derby County and I am happy that the team is progressing.”

First Team Coach John Peacock, who was appointed to Derby’s coaching team by Clement soon after his arrival, was also recognised at the event.

Peacock previously worked at the FA as National Coach, Head of Coaching and England Under-17 Head Coach, as well as Head of Elite Senior Coach Development.

He was inducted into the FA’s Coaching Hall of Fame and also received a specially made international cap for achieving over 100 games at UEFA youth level as a coaching.

Clement said: “I’m particularly pleased for John Peacock that he was recognised - it is a fantastic achievement.

“It shows how well respected he is by his peers and colleagues.

“John has great values and that’s why I wanted to bring him to Derby County in the first place and I knew he would fit in with what I want to achieve.

“I have an excellent staff and hopefully that will play a part in us being successful this season.”
