Rams fan Ed Wood on course to reclaim a Guinness World Record this weekend!
A Derby County supporter is just one game away from reclaiming a Guinness World Record he first set over 25 years ago, for attending a match at every one of the football league grounds in England in the shortest space of time.Ed Wood, from Leeds, West Yorkshire, set the record at 243 days during the 1991-92 season, but had the record taken from him just three years later.
The new record, set at 237, stood for over two decades, but is due to be beaten on Saturday when Ed attends Rochdale’s home game against Charlton Athletic at Spotland, his 93rd game in just 189 days.
Ed has taken a sabbatical from his job at Lloyds Banking Group to complete the challenge, and has raised over £5,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
He has received help from throughout the football community in order to complete the challenge, with fellow fans and EFL sponsor Sky Bet helping with tickets.
He said: “I’ve had great support from fans up and down the country, and I’d especially like to thank Wigan for arranging a collection for me and the Cambridge fans who gave me a lift on their supporters bus from Plymouth to Bristol.
“The best game was probably Tottenham Hotspur against Chelsea at White Hart Lane; the ground was full, everyone was singing and it was an entertaining game.
“I was never scared about not getting the record, as I plotted a virtual route last season and did it in 198 days, so, without an illness or an ultimatum from my girlfriend, I knew I’d be OK!”
