Chris van der Weerden was appointed as Derby County's Assistant Manager in July 2019 following the appointment of Phillip Cocu as the club's new manager.
Born in Nijmegen, van der Weerden - a right-back by trade - began his playing career at his hometown club NEC in 1990, going on to make over 90 league appearances before he joined Vitesse four years later.
It was in Arnhem where he and Cocu first crossed paths as they spent the 1994/95 campaign together at the club, before PSV signed the pair in a joint-transfer.
The duo remained teammates for a further three years before Cocu made the move to Barcelona, with van der Weerden continuing at PSV until 2001, when he joined Twente.
He moved on to Germinal Beerschot in Belgium and FC Eindhoven before ending his playing career in 2008.
When Cocu was named as the new manager of PSV in the summer of 2013, van der Weerden was named as assistant to his former teammate and the pair enjoyed great success, with three Eredivisie titles won in five seasons.
He also served as assistant to Cocu during a brief spell at Fenerbahce.
