Biography

Derby County completed the signing of experienced striker Kemar Roofe in February 2025.

The 32-year-old arrived at Pride Park Stadium on a deal until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Roofe, a free agent following the conclusion of his four-year spell at Scottish Premiership side Rangers in the summer of 2024, addsedfurther depth to John Eustace’s attacking options for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.

He has scored over 100 goals throughout his club career, including 29 in the Sky Bet Championship and 38 whilst playing for Rangers in league and cup competitions.

Born in Walsall, Roofe began his career with West Bromwich Albion’s academy and although he didn’t make a senior appearance for the Baggies, he embarked on a series of loan spells that readied him for the professional game.

He made the first appearance of his career for Icelandic side Víkingur Reykjavík, before building his experience with Northampton Town, Cheltenham Town, Colchester United and Oxford United in EFL.

It was with the U’s where Roofe made his breakthrough, scoring six goals in 16 appearances in the second half of the 2014/15 campaign to earn a permanent move.

Roofe then enjoyed a prolific 2015/16 season, scoring 18 league goals and 26 in all competitions to fire Oxford to promotion to the third tier, as well as earn a place in the 2015/16 PFA League Two Team of the Year and attract the attention of Championship side Leeds United.

He scored 33 goals – including four strikes against the Rams – over three years as the Whites rose from mid-table to become promotion contenders during Roofe’s final season in 2018/19.

A short spell in Belgium with Anderlecht followed before Roofe made the move to Rangers in the summer of 2020 and he scored 18 goals during his first campaign, including one from inside his own half to win the UEFA Europa League Goal of the Season award.

Roofe struck a further 20 times for the Ibrox club and he ended his time in Scotland with Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup winners’ medals.

At international level, Roofe has won five caps for Jamaica, scoring one goal.
